Computing Services is an administrative unit of the Information Resources department.
The staff assigned to Computing Services support approx. 1200 computers used by students at BCC
as well as over 900 computers used to perform the daily business and
administrative operations of the college. The support for the academic and
student use of technology has many aspects, some obvious and others
not-so-apparent. This includes:
-
Maintenance. Installation, upkeep and support of all student computer hardware and software,
including daily, weekly and monthly maintenance and installation/upgrades of new
software as required by instructors. This service is provided for all student computing
labs and electronic classrooms used to provide instruction campus-wide.
-
Open Lab Access. The Open Lab provides access to over 225 curriculum-
related software titles. Some CD-ROMs can also be checked out for student use
there. Handouts are available to assist the students with the Internet, with
their e-mail and with the standard MS Office software. Students can create
their login names and passwords for all campus computer labs through the web at
https://bellevuecollege.edu/sam/.
-
Training. CS provides classroom and one-on-one support and training for staff and faculty so that
they can better utilize technology in the classroom, helping to provide the students
with the best learning experience available. This also includes hiring, training
and supervising all student lab assistants.
-
Internet. The Computing Services academic support web pages are a
valuable resource providing information on campus life and the utilization of
the computing facilities. Additionally, the academic web is a stepping-stone to
the Internet, with links to popular and informative educational and recreational
web sites. These web pages simplify Internet access and provide instructional
support for software used in the labs. Last
year we recorded over 750,000 visits to the Computing Services academic support
web pages!
-
Student e-mail. The unit is responsible for creating and maintaining
approx. 10,000 student e-mail accounts on a quarterly basis. This web site
provides e-mail tutorials and an easy link to the web-based services of the
student e-mail server.
